7 Directions Medicine Pouch Basics

Most medicine pouches you see are 4 directions oriented (North, south, east, west) Many lessons and symbolic representations rarely surface or are passed on outside of specific circles thus 7 directions pouches are rare and unknown to most people.

Thus more commonly you see empty pouches sold and traded and some with medicines of the 4 directions. Sage, Cedar, Sweetgrass, and Semah are the most common used. It is a starting point but not truly complete or balanced in the more traditional sense.

What is missing is the connection to the Mother Earth and Father Sky and the most important and often overlooked direction which is “Within”

To complete the medicine pouch a gemstone is added for the Earth and a Feather for realms above and connection to the creator. Within is represented by the loaded SKIN BAG with the lesson that ALL medicines and connections can be found within you and there is no need to search outside for connection. It is always there if you chose to connect and allow those to be of influence in your life. Yes free will comes into play here. Along the left and right of the pouch you find a fringe to buffer and balance energies and also the simple lesson that what you encounter the strongest is the accumulations of the past seven generations and what YOU do with those energies/medicines, insights and connections will effect the next seven generations in striking ways. Of course the tie cord forms a circle representing how you weave it all together.

The pouch is not sealed so personal items that strengthen connections can be added when needed and removed when and if they are no longer necessary for you to carry. We change, learn and evolve over our lifetimes and once critical items and lessons come and go like the tides. As you flow and evolve, so does the medicine pouch.
